The Project

The Tesco store in Seaton proved to be one of the most unique, challenging and successful supermarket new builds of the past ten years. When ISG first took on the project the whole site sat two metres below the Axe River flood level. Extensive enabling works raised the ground level and protected the site during construction and also the store once completed.

To achieve this, over 300,000 sq m of sand were dredged from the seabed, piped through 3.6km of pipeline and pumped into specially constructed bounded reception pits on site. This is believed to have been the first inland dredging project for a retail store in the UK.
