Introduction
K&L Gates selected the newly constructed One New Change, one of the largest single developments in London for their new workplace. Owned by Land Securities, the building was designed by Jean Nouvel, one of the world's leading architects. The building is sited to respond to London’s most famous landmark, St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Project
The project comprised a Cat B fit out to provide 130 double and single offices, training rooms, showers, a communication and meeting suite and cafeteria. At the onset of construction, a mock up of full office bay (from windowline to core) was constructed to review all aspects of the design, including ceiling, lighting, finishes and furniture, from both a construction and functional point of view.
Stone was a predominant package throughout the construction, cladding expansive floor areas, feature walls and the main staircase. As such, stringent co-ordination and co-operation between the stone contractors and the other trades, particularly the dry walling, ceilings, carpets and Mechanical & Electrical contractors played a large part in the sequencing of works.
The Added Value
The project achieved a BREEAM Very Good assessment and was one of the first post-construction certified fit outs to be completed. The project was entered for a BCO Award and was among 13 finalists to win the BCO Regional award for Best Fit Out of a Workplace as well as the Best of the Best Award in October 2012.
