ISG secures a brace of public sector wins

ISG has secured a brace of public sector wins, with a £5.6 million scheme to upgrade and modernise civic buildings for Epping Forest District Council, and a £1.2 million fast track project to fit out the newly constructed Q2 Sports Centre in Kings Cross for the London Borough of Camden.   

Secured via the influential Pagabo public sector capital works framework, ISG’s project at the Epping Civic Offices represents the latest phase of a wider council masterplan to rejuvenate the town centre.

The Grade II listed office building, designed by the post-modernist architect Richard Reid, will be comprehensively reconfigured and upgraded internally to create contemporary workspaces for council staff and improved facilities and accessibility for the local community.

In addition to transforming the layout, by rationalising cellular offices into open plan and collaborative spaces, ISG will comprehensively upgrade the building’s mechanical and electrical services with modern and highly efficient infrastructure to reduce running costs and enhance its environmental performance.

Sensitive repairs will be made to listed architectural elements, including stonework and timber panelling, and ISG will install new roof lights and carry out further roofing improvements. 

At the Q2 Sports Centre in Kings Cross, ISG is undertaking the first phase fit out of the new community leisure amenity, providing a two-storey health and fitness suite and associated changing facilities.

The 14-week programme sees the contractor transform the striking base build structure into a gym with multiple activities rooms, contemporary changing facilities and a spacious reception area.   

ISG is maximising the social value legacy of its project at the sports centre by collaborating closely with the Kings Cross Construction Skills Centre, which is being temporarily housed at the Q2, whilst its own facility is under construction.

Students will benefit from on-site work experience, mentoring and curriculum support, in a tie up that will provide real life insights into contemporary construction practice.
