ISG reaches £200,000 fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support
At the beginning of 2017, we set ourselves a goal to raise £200,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Over the past two years, ISG people spanning the length and breadth of the UK have taken part in some incredible fundraising and awareness events.
Twelve cycle challenges, 19 Macmillan neighbours, six treks, over 15,000 miles, 45 care packages, four golf days, two obstacle races, and even one very brave shaved head later, we have reached our £200,000 target.
ISG was a headline partner of Macmillan’s 2017 and 2018 ‘Just say the word’ campaign in the construction industry, highlighting issues faced by men going through a cancer diagnosis and encouraging them to seek support and #JustSayTheWord, and raised over £43,000 in just four weeks.
By 2020, one in two people are expected to contract cancer at some point in their lives.
The impact ISG has made through its campaigns and fundraising initiatives has been outstanding, making a significant difference to the lives of people who are living with, or affected by, cancer.
The money raised through ISG’s partnership is unrestricted, which means Macmillan can allocate funds where it needs them most.
£200,000 could:
• fund a Macmillan Nurse for three-and-a-half years, providing practical and emotional support to 624 people living with cancer, and their loved ones
• fund the running of a Macmillan Information Support Centre for over three years
• provide 518 financial support grants covering the living costs and transport costs for cancer patients who are unable to work.
But it’s not all been about fundraising. Throughout our partnership, we have found opportunities to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancers, and how to access Macmillan’s support services.
Through our campaigns, volunteering and awareness drives, ISG has touched thousands of people across its business and supply chains, even reaching a small number of people who have fortunately sought medical advice and received an early diagnosis and treatment thanks to the information we have provided.
This charity partnership has been a huge success, and we would like to extend our thanks for the generous support of everyone across #TeamISG, our supply chain partners and our customers.
Nicki Gibson, corporate partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Thank you to everyone at ISG who has shaken a bucket, bought a cake, picked up a leaflet, ridden a bike, run a marathon, worn a wig, dressed up and generally made this partnership great.”
