A royal launch for the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership’s innovation hub

The Prince of Wales, Patron of the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), launched the ground-breaking innovation hub for SMEs at the opening of the low carbon retrofitted headquarters.

During the visit, the Prince of Wales (pictured) met with design and construction firms, business leaders, SMEs and innovators at a reception for the launch of Canopy and the opening of the new Entopia building.

The world first for a retrofitted sustainable office building sets new standards for low energy use, carbon emissions and impact on natural resources as well as user experience and wellbeing measured against multiple benchmarks.

Transformed by ISG, the Entopia Building, a retrofitted 1930s Telephone Exchange and converted for office use since the 1990s, scales up business, government and academic leadership, collaboration and innovation to accelerate the inclusive global transition.

The £12.8m project in central Cambridge aims to achieve multiple sustainable building certifications, including BREEAM (Outstanding), the Passivhaus ‘Enerphit’ standard, Well (Gold) certification, alongside the application of ‘circular economy’ principles to minimise the volume and impact of natural and made-made resources used in the building.
