Zahra joined ISG as a graduate trainee, and is now a Project Engineer working on some of the company's most prestigious projects.

After moving to London, I decided to follow my passion for engineering and construction, and took up a degree in Structural Engineering at Imperial College London.

I didn’t want my education to stop when I finished my degree, so I checked out ISG’s website to see what types of grad programmes they offered. I knew ISG was one of the top contractors in the UK, and thought it would be a great place to continue learning and growing. And I was right. The programme not only gave me a chance to work on world-class projects and develop my engineering skills, but my personal skills too.

After I joined ISG as a graduate trainee, I shadowed and worked with some of the best in the industry. The graduate programme gave me the chance to take different courses and I learned more about how the business works – from construction and temporary works, to contracts, cost and budget, planning, and sustainability. I never realised how diverse the business was, but the grad programme really highlighted it.

I moved on to work on one of ISG’s biggest projects – 20 Old Bailey – and the experience on a project of that size was invaluable. Day-to-day I was responsible for dealing with structural issues raised by sub-contractors, acting as a temporary works supervisor, reviewing and approving structural engineers’ drawings, and carrying out regular site inspections on the project.

ISG provides you with essential training, the chance to work with and learn from some of the industry’s best, and gives you the building blocks you need to help you succeed.
