The project
The project comprised of the construction of two three-storey extensions as wings to an existing junior building, and the construction of a single-storey pavilion. Some existing classrooms were also converted.
The new building was designed to achieve a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM environmental rating and the new build works provided an additional 18 classrooms.
The design was based on the ‘classroom cluster’ concept, which groups the three classes of each year together, based around shared central amenities such as group rooms, toilets and storage. Positioning the ‘clusters’ into wings on either side of the existing building provided for a minimal new build footprint and helped to retain the maximum possible external play space.
Added value
“We found ISG to be professional, co-operative and approachable at all times. As would be expected with a project of this size and complexity, there was occasion for urgent action, and ISG responded appropriately when this occurred. I would recommend ISG for school building projects, as the whole school community is delighted with the new buildings.”
Chris Ashley-Jones, Head Teacher
