Introduction
ISG completed the £4.7 million scheme three weeks ahead of programme, via the influential Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) Regional Framework. This is Bristol’s first studio school specialising in the digital, high-tech and creative sectors.
The ESFA new build free school was a fast-track two-storey development, delivered within a live campus. We created a modern bright and airy building to support the delivery of the school’s cutting-edge technology and media based curriculum.

The project
The new facility is set over two floors with a range of teaching facilities that include workshops, media studios, science laboratories and general teaching spaces.
Working in a live school environment with an adjacent sports centre required daily communications to ensure delivery times and traffic movements were understood and adhered to by all parties.
Working with key stakeholders we achieved multiple value engineering savings to a total value of £43k. This was achieved whilst still delivering a high-specification school environment which met the client’s needs and requirements.
The project was delivered three weeks ahead of schedule. This was achieved through weekly reassessment of the critical path against the programme. The team identified several opportunities to improve the project efficiency and streamline the method of construction.
The site achieved a zero accident frequency rate by encouraging safe behaviours through tool box talks and building a positive rapport with operatives on site. It was vital to the project that an excellent impression was maintained throughout and regular liaison with our supply chain partners helped to support this.
Sustainability
Using our environmental management dashboard we submitted monthly project specific KPIs covering safety and environment. We used materials from either recycled and/or sustainable sources wherever possible, and via use of the SmartWaste system, allowed us to calculate waste diverted from landfill at 92%. A range of targeted consumption saving schemes were in place across the project.
The team also engaged heavily with the Environment Agency due to the local watercourse and discharge licenses as well as reptile protection considerations.
