Introduction
This mixed-use project was for the refurbishment of the historic Ely Place to create a high-specification dental health centre and a church. It included the demolition of an earlier extension and the construction of two new extensions.
Ely Place is a Grade II listed town house which includes elements that date back to the 17th Century and it was previously used solely as a church.
The Project
Within the existing building ISG renovated and reconfigured the accommodation to deliver a spacious waiting area, dental hygienists’ facilities and an oral health education centre. Further surgery rooms are located at first floor level as well as staff facilities.
ISG constructed a part two-storey steel frame structure to the side and rear of the townhouse. The extension houses surgery and consultation rooms, offices, a reception, welfare facilities and a laboratory. A basement was formed to house the mechanical & electrical services.
The façade of Ely Place was sensitively restored, including repairing the masonry and roof, restoring windows and repainting the facing brickwork.
ISG also built a two-storey structure to provide modern accommodation for worshippers, including an auditorium, bookshop, classrooms, nursery and study room.
