Introduction
The Crystal is one of the world’s most sustainable buildings and is home to the largest exhibition – the future of cities. It won the British Council for Offices National Innovation Award.
Technology company Siemens wanted to create a show piece building that demonstrated their businesses vision for a more sustainable future.
The project
This building is split into two main areas, called ‘Crystals’.
The first Crystal offers high-specification office accommodation with meeting rooms, a 270 seat auditorium, cafés and a restaurant.
The second Crystal houses a large interactive exhibition space. It’s the world’s most sustainable events venue and is home to the largest exhibition on the future of cities.
Sustainability
The Crystal achieved the highest international sustainability credentials for a building; BREEAM Outstanding and LEED Platinum; and won Most Sustainable Building at London’s LABC Awards.
State of the art infrastructure provides the building with heating and cooling at the same time. And a 60,000 litre rainwater harvesting tank means only 10% of the water used is sourced from the public mains.
