Introduction
We were awarded the fit out of new offices for the global insurance and reinsurance solutions company Allied World, located in 20 Fenchurch Street. With the company relocating from 30 St Mary Axe and requiring space for over 150 staff, the customer decided on two levels at 20 Fenchurch Street with full panoramic views over London.
The project
We created open plan office space, meeting rooms, a multi-function suite, break out areas, visitor’s lounge, main equipment rooms and satellite equipment rooms and a new staircase designed to connect the two levels. The mechanical & electrical works involved a high level of audio visual and IT. There was also a high specification of joinery and specialist finishes including various stones and fabrics. Strict noise restrictions were imposed due to the occupation of level 17 by another company who were continuing their day-to-day business, resulting in all structural work taking place out of hours throughout August and September 2014.
Installing the staircase involved altering the structural conditions of the building by removing part of the slab between the 18th and 19th floors. The staircase was welded and fabricated on site from five sections. The design involved establishing support slots from the slab to create a floating affect with no visible support structure. Other design installations included a sculpture, specialist lighting and a vinyl feature wall running the full length of the lift and lobby area.
