The team came together with key client, Colt Data Centre Services, to celebrate the highest point in the construction, or ‘topping out’, of Colt’s latest datacentre development. The project team including supply chain partners, joined Colt staff along with representatives from the Hillingdon Council, Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce, and local educational institutions, to lay the final beam and plant a ceremonial tree.

Consisting of two buildings, this five-storey hyperscale data centre has been designed to a Tier 3 specification, which means it has multiple paths for power and cooling and systems in place to update and maintain it without taking it offline. The scope of the works has seen the team construct the shell and core, provide the day one technical fit out of nine data halls, while the fit out of further data halls will be deployed on a phased basis. The team has also been responsible for the external plant gantries and site-wide infrastructure including hard and soft landscaping.

Upon completion, it will be Colt’s largest datacentre in its London portfolio, offering 57MW of IT power across a gross site area of approximately 49,000m2. With the need for greater bandwidth, consolidated infrastructures, and the adoption of cloud technology, the Colt London 4 Data Centre is designed to meet growing customer demand.

“As more industries streamline their infrastructures to support business growth and utilise the services offered by emerging technologies, we will continue to see further investment in the London data centre market, which will have a positive impact on the UK economy. Our Colt London 4 Data Centre is being built to support requirements of hyperscalers and large enterprise organisations worldwide, offering flexible and customer-centric solutions on demand.”

Patrick McCourt, Regional Head of Delivery (Europe), Colt Data Centre Services

The client is also focused on the long-term legacy that a significant infrastructure project like this brings to a local community, using local supply chain partners, and building long-term connections with Brunel University and Uxbridge College.

The project team supports these commitments and has also focused on the environmental elements of the build, bringing down carbon emissions on site. The site is set up to use Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) as a fuel source, and has installed a Battery Saving Unit, which has saved approximately 48 tonnes of CO2 on the project to date. The team has also reduced the pile length for the build, which has saved a further 33 tonnes of CO2 across site.

Collaboration and innovation are vital ingredients in ensuring world-leading facilities are delivered with speed, cost and quality in mind – and local communities at their heart.
