The regional awards took place throughout April and May, with the winners at regional level progressing to the National Awards Dinner held on 8 October in London. ISG is a proud platinum sponsor for the awards.

Guests at the regional events received a first look at ISG’s latest report, ‘Space to Innovate: A formula for prosperity.’ Our research explores the link between space and innovation, suggesting that space could be the missing link in the UK’s formula for prosperity.

Winner of four regional awards, ISG’s projects will be eligible to compete for national recognition and the prestigious BCO ‘Best of the Best’ award.

London ESG Award – Sky Innovation Centre

The Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) award category recognises a project that will have a lasting impact on the environment, social value, governance, or sustainable outcomes in the commercial building sector.

This year’s London ESG award was presented to Sky Innovation Centre, the latest phase in the redevelopment of Sky’s campus. The judges were highly impressed with the tailored approach to meet the needs of a creative end-user and the project’s ability to hold all components of ESG at the core of its design, from the feasibility stages all the way through to operation.

The building achieved BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ together with WELL ‘Platinum’ environmental certification, all while creating an inspiring workplace. Designed to accommodate hybrid working, the building promotes collaboration and dynamic interaction across its impressive range of sustainable spaces.

The three-storey building maximises natural light, utilising a large photovoltaic (PV) array to produce emission free electricity. The project team left a lasting impact through delivering impactful social value initiatives, such as presenting to local schools in Hounslow, through a partnership with careers company Spark! Other initiatives included giving food drops to local charities and working closely with Sky to test good practice in addressing hidden labour exploitation.

South of England & South Wales Corporate Workplace & ESG Award – ‘Calon’ at The Interchange

The Corporate Workplace category celebrates buildings customised efficiently by a developer for the occupier, exceeding expectations in its base build and fit out elements.

‘Calon’ at The Interchange project, transformed an old bus depot into a modern destination hub, hosting 500,000 sq ft of new space, including the 14-bay bus interchange, 318 build-to-rent apartments, 154,000 sq ft of office space across ten levels, and 231 car parking spaces. This modern office space is now the headquarters of Legal & General in Wales, providing a collaborative, agile space. It has a focus on wellbeing, incorporating cycle and changing facilities, a café, social space and an external terrace.

Judges were impressed with its framework for sustainability and innovation, with the building’s NABERS (National Australian Built Environment Rating System) 5-star rating accurately representing good environmental performance for future cost saving. ‘Calon’ is establishing a strong project legacy, empowering local communities, while providing Cardiff with high-quality flexible spaces, adding to the wider mixed-use development scheme in Central Square. The office offers designated areas for collaboration, as well as formal and informal meeting spaces, providing occupiers with an environment that promotes productivity and interaction.

Also recognised with an ESG award, judges highlighted its strong environmental credentials, with the project achieving BREEAM 'Outstanding’ and WELL ‘Platinum’ certifications, with notable occupier-centric technological innovations brought in to monitor air quality, along with the implementation of natural lighting into the design. The judges complemented the operational net zero initiatives, with the building's solar panels and air source heat pumps providing 100% of the energy used on site.

North of England, North Wales, and Northern Ireland Corporate Workplace Award – One Spinningfields Square, NatWest

Our extensive refurbishment of One Spinningfields Square in Manchester for NatWest Group was this year’s winner of best Corporate Workplace for the North. One Spinningfields Square is a vibrant hub for NatWest Group in the heart of Deansgate, providing its people with a transformative and unique workspace. The project was commended for creating an inclusive environment that prioritises employee wellbeing, through the inclusion of brand-new wellness facilities, an external roof terrace, a multi faith room, and designated quiet and tech free zones on office floors.

The space celebrates Manchester’s rich industrial heritage, featuring subtle references to the iconic worker bee alongside artwork by local creators. As part of its transition into the new space, NatWest Group revamped its ways of working, crafting a flexible office environment which incorporates a diverse range of work settings.

Congratulations to our winners and good luck in the National Awards this October.
