ISG, one of the UK’s largest privately-owned companies, delivered a resilient financial performance in 2020, remaining debt free and maintaining revenues at the £2bn threshold, with a record £1.5bn forward order book. During this year of unparalleled global disruption, ISG’s core focus on being the best employer in the sector saw it further advance its ambitions, becoming the Sunday Times’ 17th ‘best big company to work for’.

  • £2.0bn revenue (£2.6bn 2019)
  • £101.5m net cash (£116.9m 2019)
  • £37.6m underlying EBITDA (£63.3m 2019)
  • £1.5bn forward order book (£1.4bn 2019)

Key highlights included cementing ISG’s major project credentials by securing the UK’s first Gigafactory for client Britishvolt in the NE of England, and the successful completion of the company’s tenth hyperscale datacentre in Europe. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, ISG self-developed a best practice app which was shared with industry via its partnership with BuildUK. This agile and innovative response created the conditions for a swift return to near normal levels of productivity across sites and led to ISG’s highest ever customer satisfaction scores at 89 percent.

ISG’s commitment to achieving ‘net gain’ in relation to the environmental and societal impact of its operations took a further leap forward in 2020. In addition to maintaining its A- ‘leadership’ CDP status, ISG reduced its absolute global emissions by 37 percent. The company’s continual focus on diversity and inclusion saw increased activity across its school and college outreach programme, and record investment for its graduate and apprentice schemes. ISG continues to set the standard for leadership inclusivity with one of the most gender diverse statutory boards of any large UK organisation.

Paul Cossell, CEO of ISG, commented: “In one of the most challenging years for our industry, clients and society in general, our resilient 2020 financial performance is testament to the outstanding contribution and commitment of our people and supply chain partners to drive projects forward safely.

“Four years of consistent profitability and growth provided the financial and structural resilience to weather an unprecedented period of market uncertainty and emerge with a record forward order book, which resets us on our previous growth trajectory. I’m passionate that ISG continues to be at the forefront of creating many of the world’s most innovative and advanced buildings that have a profound and positive impact on our environment, communities and helping to transform lives.”
